Halloween is one week away and if you haven’t carved your pumpkins yet, I have some ideas on painted pumpkins instead. I first saw the painted pumpkin idea on Pinterest and before that I had never heard of or seen painted pumpkins.
To be honest, I’ve only ever carved a pumpkin once or twice in my whole life. I grew up in Greece and Halloween there is not really a thing. Carving pumpkins and Halloween decorations are not a thing either (sadly). So, when I moved to the UK I was super excited to carve my first pumpkin! Turns out, pumpkin carving is not an easy task my friends. 🎃 Not only was carving the Halloween pumpkin hard as hell – I bought a small one mind you- I also had no fucking clue what I should do with the leftover pumpkin. I tried mashing it and baking it into a pumpkin pie, but that turned out a hot mess. The pumpkin puree was not the same as the store bought one. 😭
The idea of painted pumpkins
ANYWAY, the point I’m trying to make is that perhaps there is a better alternative to pumpkin carving. The idea of a painted pumpkin is very appealing to me, because I enjoy arts and crafts in general. Painted pumpkin ideas are, also, great for young children and for people like myself who like to paint and draw.
So, far this year I did not buy a pumpkin. Last year I only bought some baby pumpkins and used them as decor. The two years before that I did not buy or curve one at all, if my memory doesn’t fail me. I used artificial decorations this year to bring the autumn spirit in my flat. That included artificial pumpkins, which in all honesty I kind of prefer. Last year my baby pumpkins ended up rotting and I had to always keep an eye on them to make sure my dog doesn’t eat them. 😑
Check out the painted pumpkin ideas below and let me know in the comments what you think! Would you do this? I will definitely go and get a pumpkin this week and paint it in preparation for Halloween! I decided this year, I will leave it in my garden and hopefully a fox will feast on it. 🦊😅
Personally, I already have acrylic paints and brushes because, as I mentioned, I paint but if you don’t have art supplies I found this awesome painted pumpkin kit on Amazon that you can purchase here.
